James Fullen asked:

Water absorbing and storing polymer crystals have many applications other than growing plants and saving water.

By using polymer Water Crystals, your plants — flowers, vegetables, trees, shrubs, lawns and houseplants — have a better chance of getting over missed waterings and of surviving drought conditions.

But, polymer water crystals have many other uses around the home and in industry.

Water crystals are popular in hand crafts and home decorating, for festive decorations like floating candles and candle designs. They are regularly used in wedding table designs. They can be easily colored to any spectrum of the rainbow.

They are the material inside hot/cold compresses for muscular/skeletal care, hot and cold packs and evaporative coolers (also known as cool ties, cool wraps, spin and neck coolers) for the head, neck and family pets. Florists use them in shipping. Horticulturalists extend the shelf life of their plants by incorporating them in soil. Some potting soils now contain them as a standard ingredient.

Water Crystals are used in a variety of proprietary products in many industries, including humidors, commercially-produced hot/cold packs, drink chillers.

They are even used to feed roaches and crickets by those who raise reptiles. Organizations purchase them for adult and children events at picnics. Some are even packaged comically to be used as a hot soak in bathtubs. (Beware of clogging drains; and be sure to follow supplier instructions!)

They’ve been used to fight fires and as fire retardants. In small containers, they will absorb water from the bottoms of contaminated fuel tanks. They’ve been used in feedlots to help clean up messes and spills. They have been used as emergency water absorbers in floods.

Their main application is to help reduce irrigation in agriculture, home vegetable and flower gardens, house plants, and container gardening. After all, the use of Water Crystals in soils dramatically increases long-term, water holding capacity.

Water Crystals help nurture healthy plants. These polymer crystals contribute to healthy plant life and growth by reducing plant stress from too much or too little water. These polymers effectively absorb excess water, alleviating runoff and storing it until needed by plants.

Their use actually improves soil structure as they expand and contract in hydration and dehydration. As a gardening product and soil amendment, Water Crystals significantly lengthen intervals between watering. This is true for lawns, vegetable and flower gardens, house plants, container gardens, trees, and field crops.

It is a myth (perhaps propagated on the Internet) that the crystals are harmful to plants or take water away from them, replacing the water with harmful chemicals. Instead they capture excess water and store it for plants.

When hydrated, each dry granule turns into a gel, containing the water it absorbs. By squeezing a hydrated crystal, the polymer won’t leak moisture. Instead, it will break into smaller crystals or particles that dehydrate to smaller granules.

Super absorbent polymer (SAP) granules, when hydrated, save irrigation costs and help prevent plant stress from dry conditions in throughout the world, in nurseries, sod and turf farms, crop fields, in home gardens and residential lawns.

See how a small investment in this amazing product will help preserve your plants and help care for both indoor and outdoor container plants, improve soil and reduce water bills. You cannot find a higher quality polymer crystal. Genuine Water Crystals are a quality processed, cross-linked polyacrylamide co-polymer. Despite the long technical name, Water Crystals are environmentally friendly and safe to all animals, pets and plants. See for yourself. Go to: http://WaterCrystals.com

Lowry W. Mell asked:

After a few years of collecting crystal figurines your display shelf or curio cabinet can begin to look cluttered or disorganized. A good way to solve this problem is to theme your collection.

Here are a few simple tips that will make your display dazzle with interest. Look over your crystal figurines and identify those figurines that have something in common. For example, you might have a crystal elephant, a horse on a ball, and a clown. The theme here would be a circus.

If your crystal figurine collection is comprised of all animals, view them as farm animals, forest animals, jungle animals, zoo animals and build a cluster of figurines in these groups. Dolphins, oysters, starfish, lighthouses and sailboats create an ocean theme. The different themes are limited only by the figurines in your collection and your imagination.

Some collectors focus on one category of figurines such as butterflies or frogs or dogs. In this case, you can theme by manufacturer, color, size, style or artistic value. Each of these themes can be made attractive and interesting.

Collectors who have only a few crystal figurines can combine two or three figurines together in a group. Placing a crystal butterfly next to a crystal rose figurine is a nice touch, or placing a frog under a mushroom works nicely. Think about relationships and you’ll come up with lots of ideas and combinations.

The best time to reorganize your crystal collection is the day you clean and dust your display. As you remove the figurines, place them on a large table in the appropriate groupings you have identified. Once all the crystal figurines are on the table, you have plenty of room to rearrange each grouping according to size and eye appeal.

Spend some time on this activity to get the best visual effect that you can.

Does the grouping look better with the figurines facing each other or all facing in the same direction. What is the best angle placement for each figurine in relation to the other figurines in the group? Obviously the larger figurines should be behind the smaller figurines.

But what do you do if all the figurines are about the same size? Try placing small, clear plastic stands of varying heights to raise the figurines in the back of the grouping. Varying heights adds interest and focus to the theme. You may have to do some searching for the plastic stands. Try arts and crafts shops and collectible stores.

Avoid using solid material for stands in a lighted curio cabinet. It will block some of the light filtering down through the figurines and glass shelving and create unwanted shadows. Figurine displays on a solid wood shelf or in a bookcase would not be affected by solid or colored stands. Just remember, under certain lighting conditions, crystal figurines will pick up and reflect the colors around them. Is that an effect that you want?

Now that you have all your theme groups laid out and adjusted for height, you can begin placing them back in the display cabinet or on the shelf. When the display area is completed, stand back and visually check each theme group. Can you see all of the figurines in the group? Can you immediately identify the theme? Make your final adjustments and you’re finished. Sit back and enjoy your beautiful crystal figurine collection.

If you want a stunning display of crystal figurines theme your crystal figurine collection. Your display will be organized, interesting and have great eye appeal.

Paul Shane asked:

There is something very mysterious about crystals. And, therefore, as soon as you don them, they lend a very enigmatic touch to your whole persona. Even if it is just one small little crystal, it can work wonders for you. No, this is no future prediction, though crystals have always been one of the favourite tools of soothsayers. But here, the point that is that even a small jewel encrusted with a tiny piece of crystal can make you look charming and, at times, mesmerising!

And it is due to this touch of glory that the crystal provides that it has enchanted the kings and queens since time immemorial. They have worn crystal on their fingers and as pendants in their lavaliere. However, crystal has most enjoyed its rightful place in many a royal crown. Towards the eastern and oriental part of the world, and in the middle east, crystal has beautified the turbans of the kings and princes.

Today, you can wear a crystal by embedding it firmly into your necklace, ring or just about any kind of jewellery. It is the age of experimentation and people are trying to spice up their look with different kinds of combination, especially in jewellery. You can try wearing crystal on your bracelet, on your anklet, and even as a pendant in your belt or tiara. A belt studded with crystal droplets would set the dance floor on fire, as soon as you step on it.

Not just your jewellery or accessories, you can also try crystals on your dress. A crystal can prove to be a great accompaniment along with evening gowns or halter tops, affirming what a diva you are! Just get a glam doll look instantly, with crystals. Even a plain dress or a simple look can turn vibrant with small beads of crystals that give you a starry glow and shine. And if you are going for that elaborate dinner party, the ballroom dance or hitting the discotheque, then don’t forget your shortcut to razzle dazzle - Crystal.

Lowry Mell asked:

Proper care of crystal is a part of the collecting and ownership process. Bear in mind that crystal is a form of glass and is consequentially fragile. Even solid looking crystal figurines are subject to breakage. Keep the following tips in mind and you will maintain the beauty, quality and value of your crystal.

1. When moving or cleaning a crystal item, handle only one piece at a time. This is the time when most damage occurs so be careful.

2. Glassware, stemware and crystal figurine collectibles should be stored in an enclosed cabinet to avoid the collection of dust.

3. Crystal items used for Home Décor such as crystal flower vases, ashtrays, figurines, paperweights, etc. can be cleaned free of dust with a Blow Dryer set on cool, or with a lint free cloth. Finger marks can be removed with a light spray of glass cleaner and a lint free cloth. Never use paper towels to clean crystal. The wood fibers in paper will create tiny scratches on the surface.

4. Exercise great care when washing crystal. The kitchen sink is the biggest hazard zone for crystal breakage. Crystal is subject to breaking in extreme heat. Wash in warm water only. If the water is too hot for your hands, it is too hot for the crystal. To avoid spotting, add a quarter cup of ammonia or a liquid dishwasher rinse agent with the detergent. Rinse in clean warm water and air dry on a rack or kitchen towel.

5. Take care when washing glassware. Use a soft fiber bottle brush to clean the inside of narrow glasses. For larger glasses, clean the inside with a dish cloth using only two fingers. Never put your whole hand in the glass to clean or dry the crystal. The pressure on the side of the glass will cause it to break and you risk getting a nasty cut.

6. Here are some additional safety measures you can take. Do not put five or six glasses in the sink at one time. When you reach in the water for another glass you create a mini-wave of water pressure. This pressure can push one glass into another glass or one glass into the side of the sink resulting in breakage. Washing one at a time is the better way. Another good idea is to place a rubber mat in the bottom of the sink in case a glass slips out of your hand. The next hazard is the spigot. Push it out of the wash area until you are ready to rinse.

Follow these simple tips and you will keep your crystal looking as good as new with all its original sparkle and brilliance. Use care in handling crystal and it will last a lifetime.

Lowry Mell asked:

It’s easy to get stuck in the same old gift selection when Valentine’s Day rolls around. Men have a tendency to rely on the usual gift of roses, candy, heart shaped jewelry or cutesy cherub pins. After a few years, that can get pretty boring to that special someone.

Think outside the box, or in this case, outside the traditional gift zone. Give him or her a crystal figurine. After all, crystal is a valuable product that is pleasing to the eye and enjoyed and appreciated by both men and women. Select the right crystal figurine and you’ll be amazed at the reaction when you give the gift.

Selecting the right crystal animal figurine isn’t that difficult. Most people have hobbies or special areas of interest or are fond of collecting something. Find a crystal animal that fits into one of those categories. A friend collects anything that has to do with cows. Things like pitchers, vases, ceramics and figurines are all items in her collection. Give her a crystal cow.

If that special someone is a pet or animal lover, consider giving a crystal dog or crystal cat. There are crystal animals available for just about any species of animal you want.

The important thing is the crystal animal must be meaningful to the person receiving it.

A fondness for a pet or animal is the key element here.

Crystal animals can be easily found on the internet, in local gift shops, card stores, second hand shops and privately owned pharmacies that carry gifts. The challenge is not where to find the crystal gift. It’s which crystal animal touches the heartstrings and brings joy to that special someone on Valentine’s Day.
