Best and not too expensive microscope for viewing crystals?

Flatlander asked:

It’s science fair time again. I have googled this, but how can we best view ice crystals? I know it will cost…We are also going to have to take photos of the crystals so I know I need a camera adapter. What about renting a microscope? Is that a better idea? THANKS to all serious answers!!!
I know I need a microscope, but which kind?

A stereoscope is probably a good place to start. You can also get cheap pocket scopes. Some examples are given as a reference (answerer not affiliated with company).
